Lesson 3: The Profession of Faith

English Passage
The plan of God for man is to communicate his own divine life to all men, freely created by him. God, who “dwells in unapproachable light,” wants to make men sharers in his divine life. For this reason, in the fullness of time, God the Father sent his Son, the Redeemer and Savior of mankind, born in the flesh, to gather into the Church all those who are scattered by sin. Through the Holy Spirit, he calls all men to become his adopted children and heirs of his eternal happiness. This plan is realized in the Church, which is the Body of Christ and the Temple of the Holy Spirit. To believe is to respond to this plan.
By the profession of faith, the believer responds to God’s revelation and joins himself to the community of the faithful. This faith is not a private opinion but a communal witness to the truth that has been handed down from the Apostles. Faith is a gift of God, a supernatural virtue infused by him. “Before this faith can be exercised, man must have the grace of God to move and assist him; he must have the interior helps of the Holy Spirit, who moves the heart and converts it to God.” Faith is an authentic human act. It is an act of the intellect which assents to the divine truth by an command of the will moved by God through grace. Trusting in God and cleaving to the truths he has revealed, the believer finds the way to eternal life.

神の人間に対する計画とは、ご自分によって自由に造られたすべての人々に、神ご自身の生命を伝えることです。「近づきがたい光の中に住まわれる」神は、人間をご自分の神的な生命のあずかる者にしたいと望まれました。この理由から、時の満ちるに及んで、父なる神は、罪によって散らされたすべての人々を教会へと集めるため、肉において生まれた、人類の贖い主であり救い主である御子を遣わされました。聖霊を通じて、神はすべての人を神の養子（義子）、そして永遠の幸福の相続人となるよう招かれます。この計画は、キリストの体であり聖霊の神殿である教会において実現されます。信じるとは、この計画に応えることです。
信仰の宣言（告白）によって、信者は神の啓示に応え、信者の共同体に加わります。この信仰は個人的な意見ではなく、使徒たちから伝承されてきた真理に対する共同体的な証しなのです。信仰は神の贈り物であり、神によって注がれる超自然的な徳です。「この信仰が働かされる前に、人間は自分を動かし助けてくれる神の恩寵を受けなければなりません。心を動かし、神へと回心させる聖霊の内面的な助けが必要なのです。」信仰は真正な人間的行為です。それは、恩寵を通じて神に動かされた意志の命令によって、神の真理に同意する知性の行為なのです。神を信頼し、神が照らされた真理に固く従うことで、信者は永遠の命への道を見出すのです。

Misreading
「flesh」を単なる「（食肉としての）肉」や「肉欲」とし、「profession」を「職業」と誤読する。
Correction
キリスト論において flesh は、神の子が人間としての性質を完全に受けた（受肉した）ことを指す非常にポジティブで重要な語です。profession は「職業」ではなく、自らの信仰を公に言い表す「信仰告白（宣言）」を意味します。また、adopted children は単なる法的比喩ではなく、恩寵によって「神の家族（子）」としての資格を実際に受けるという神学的身分を指しています。
