“It pleased God, in his goodness and wisdom, to reveal himself and to make known the mystery of his will. His will was that men should have access to the Father, through Christ, the Word made flesh, in the Holy Spirit, and thus become sharers in the divine nature.” God, who “dwells in unapproachable light,” says to man that he wishes to make them capable of responding to him, and of knowing him and of loving him far beyond their own natural capacity. The divine plan of revelation is realized simultaneously “by deeds and words which are intrinsically bound up with each other” and shed light on each other. It involves a specific divine pedagogy: God communicates himself to man gradually.
He prepares him to receive by stages the supernatural revelation that is to culminate in the person and mission of the incarnate Word, Jesus Christ. This pedagogy is visible in the history of salvation, where God establishes covenants with his people. Through the prophets, he prepares them to accept the salvation destined for all mankind. The Old Testament is an indispensable part of Sacred Scripture. Its books are divinely inspired and retain a permanent value, for the Old Covenant has never been revoked. They contain teachings on God, helpful strategies for human life, and a treasury of prayers, and in them the mystery of our salvation is present in a hidden way.

Misreading
「mystery」を「推理小説の謎」のように考え、「Word」を辞書的な「単語」と読んでしまう。
Correction
教会英語での mystery は、人間の知性では完全に理解できないけれど、神が私たちに開いてくれた「救いの計画（神秘）」そのものを指します。単なる「不思議な現象」ではありません。Word は大文字で書かれる場合、ヨハネ福音書の冒頭にある通り、神の独り子であるキリスト（ロゴス）を指す固有名詞です。inspired も「刺激を受けた」ではなく、聖霊の働きによって神の意志が記された（霊感）ことを意味します。
